The AMAK is a 64’ X 18’ early-century tug originally built for Alaska service by M. H. Higgins (US) and subsequently converted into yacht service. Her Douglas fir carvel planked hull is galvanized boat nail (or spike) fastened on Doug Fir frames with full inner hull ceiling. Bilge water cleared by 24-volt DC (VDC) pumps with automatic controls. Stern gear and other immersed metals are cathodically protected with sacrificial anodes. The vessel’s upper works including cabin and coach roof are constructed from quality boat lumber with non-skid work/weather decks. The vessel is protected by marine grade coatings. A 210-lb galvanized steel Seahook anchor is carried at the bow weighed by a J.K. Fabrication-Seattle hydraulic windlass. An Endeavor MX-350 RIB is quarter deck stowed, launched and retrieved by a Quick davit system. Forward and aft of diesel reduction machinery space are private cabins with wheelhouse, galley, and marine toilet compartment up. Large single-pane glass windows surround the wheelhouse and galley space. Interior construction features good workmanship and finished joiner work. Wheelhouse electronic navigation aids and companion seating. She is propelled by a single (1) 470-hp inboard Mitsubishi S6A2 inboard marine diesel engine turning a fixed pitch stainless steel propeller through a ZF Marine reversing reduction gear with straight prop shaft line. Steering is hydraulic with Hynautic hydraulic propulsion controls. Vessel has battery operated engine start and house electrical system with switch boards, over-current protection (OCP), insulated copper wiring, battery chargers, and main engine driven DC alternators. 120/240-volt AC (VAC) electrical loads are powered by 30 and 50-amp shore power inlets, (2) 2,500-watt Outback AC inverters, or 9,000-watt Northern Lights marine generator set.
