Escapade is a beautiful and rare example of the Legacy 40 Flybridge Sedan, a very comfortable and seaworthy downeast cruiser designed by the renowned Mark Ellis of sailboat and powerboat fame. Escapade exhibits a sharp entry on the bow to part waves, and a V-bottom for a smooth ride. She has wide chine flats, lifting strakes, and a skeg which lift the hull up onto plane at only 12 knots and provides for very soft, comfortable and controlled ride. Additionally, roll is noticeably minimized and tracking is superb. Her hull design is very efficient in terms of speed and fuel consumption, burning only approximately 22 gallons per hour at 22 knot cruise with her twin “bulletproof” Cummins 370B diesels (6BTA5.9-M). The Legacy 40 Sedan, introduced in 1995, was Freedom Yacht’s first entry into the powerboat market. Escapade, a 1999 Flybridge Sedan version, is built on a fully cored hull with a sharp entry, wide 13'7" beam, and a deep keel that protects the props and rudders while enhances tracking. The finely crafted interior of the Legacy 40 is a blend of rich mahogany and cherry woodwork, and quality furnishings and hardware. Escapade’s galley-down floorplan includes two comfortable and private staterooms, each with a double berth, and a full head with separate shower. Large cabin windows throughout the salon provide panoramic views of the water, and the teak-and-holly flooring found throughout the interior adds the right touch of nautical elegance. Escapade boasts both lower and upper helms, wide side decks with deep gunnels, full railings and conveniently placed hand holds. These features combined with port, starboard and aft salon doors, allow movement around the entire exterior secure and easy, even when running on plane. Escapade is also endowed with a beautiful flybridge that seats at least five comfortably.

From the conception of the first Legacy in the 1990s, Mark Ellis and Freedom Yachts believed that the Legacy brand should lead the industry with yachts that provide efficient performance measured in speed, comfort, superior handling, and sound construction to withstand the rigors of the sea. The Legacy 40 was designed by Ellis and developed by Freedom Yachts in the late ‘90’s. This model set the tone for future Legacy models… great looks and efficient performance. Mark Ellis powerboat designs owe much of their success to his experience in the Hunt design office, his affinity for classic aesthetics, and his good business sense. As a testament to the success of this approach, in 2010, highly regarded Tartan Yachts acquired Legacy to carry on the brand in the most distinguished manner. Current Legacy yachts are a design collaboration between Mark Ellis Design and the Tartan Design team. Escapade offers an opportunity to own one of these beautiful, quality downeast yachts at a fraction of the cost of a new model, while still exhibiting the proud heritage, beauty, performance and reputation. Escapade draws compliments everywhere she goes.
