A huge hit ever since her introduction in 1988, the Catalina 42 was produced until early 2011. With over 1,000 hulls launched during that 20-plus-year production run, there is an active 42 Owner's Association, which we quote below (check out their website, there's a wealth of useful information available there).
"The Catalina 42 Mark II was introduced in 1995. Catalina Yachts modified the hull with a new cabin top, interior, and rig in order to make it a comfortable coastal cruising boat which two people could easily handle. The spacious design is comfortable for a gang of crew on a week-long cruise. With a race-bred hull and a substantial rig, the boat is moderately stiff and capable of weather legs approaching 8 knots, and downwind action well over that. She has a PHRF handicap rating of 102/108 (So. California), which has been the subject of many heated discussions by Cat42 skippers. But as the sun sets over your favorite hideaway anchorage, there is little argument that the Catalina 42 is hard to match for comfort."
This particular two stateroom example is immaculate inside and out with the interior in particular showing as new. Vessel's also loaded with all top-end kit including new main and jib sails in 2020 (an Ullman full batten main in Stack Pack [the traditonal main was a factory option as most came with the in-mast furling main], and an Ullman 120% furling jib, plus a 100% furling jib in excellent condition, and an asymetrical spinnaker also in excellent condition and full electronics including Raymarine E-80 color chartplotter with radar overlay, ST6002 autopilot, wireless windlass and halyard winch, low time on 54 hp Yanmar with Max Prop (have you priced one of THESE things recently?!). Last bottom painted in May 2024, hull waxed and engine serviced in June 2025.
As noted above, this is this is a two stateroom model (which has the Pullman berth) with the deep draft keel (which is preferable for the Bay), plus as noted above had low time (barely 600 hours) on the Yanmar diesel, vessel detailed annually etc etc etc--the bottom line is the boat shows bristol both topsides and below and she really must be seen to be appreciated.
Forepeak head with shower, along with luxurious owner's stateroom forward with Pullman twin berth port side and cabinetry across to starboard. Step aft to roomy main salon with comfortable settee and drop-leaf dinette port side with in-line galley across starboard.
Nav table found aft part of salon port side, centerline companionway up to cockpit and second head starboard. Far aft are the two guest staterooms, one port and one starboard.
Note entire boat is light and roomy with 6' 6+ headroom, numerous opening hatches and ports (15 to be exact, plus fans installed discreetly throughout), beautiful teak interior shows almost as new, very comfortable innerspring mattresses in both staterooms.
